The Epidemiologic Research Methodology Course took place the week from May the 24th to the 27^th.  This event constituted the second of eight courses that form part of the researcher’s network training program (RIEC) of the CIIPEC. This event made 12 places available for individuals that were outside the RIEC. These places were taken by personnel of Panamas Health Ministry, the Honduran World Food Program, Dominican Republic Health Ministry, University of Panama and Universidad de Ciencias y Artes of Chiapas, Mexico.

 

The course was served by Dr. Eduardo Villamor, Dr. Ana Victoria Diez-Roux and Dr. Sioban Harlow, all of the researchers are professors of the Public Health School of the University of Michigan.

 

30 participants, representatives of INCAP and of the universities of the 9 countries, attended the activity. The curse duration was of 40 hours and was certified by the University of Panama.

 

In accordance to the course’s program (see program in spanish attached), it started with basic concepts and the epidemiologic research process, and continued with the epidemiological study types. As a final activity of the course, a scientific article was reviewed, discussed and analyzed. This activity was performed in work groups and its objective was to apply the knowledge that was acquired during the four day duration of the course. At the end all participants elaborated the evaluation of the workshop and a participation certificate was granted. This certificate was credited by the University of Panama.

 

En general terms, the course satisfied the expectation of most of the participants and impulse many of them to attend the third course that will take place in El Salvador.
